Kaufman Adolescent and Adult Intelligence Test

The Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test is commonly called as the KAIT. The KAIT was developed by Alan S. Kaufman and Nadeen L. Kaufman. The Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test is a multi-subtest battery. The Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test is used to measure both fluid and crystallized intelligence.

The Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test is appear at the age of 11 to over 85 years. The KAIT has strong psychometric properties and is well suited for use in both school and clinical settings. The Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test has high reliability and validity. The IQ tables in the KAIT manual are based on only 6 of the 8 subtests.

Two components of Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test

The KAIT contains two components such as a core battery and an expanded battery.

  • Core Battery

The core battery consists of a fluid scale, a crystallized scale, and six subtests, and takes about 65 minutes to complete. A core battery is ideal part of a psycho-educational evaluation, vocational and clinical battery. The core battery subtests have the consistency of 0.87 to 0.93.

  • Expanded Battery

The expanded battery also includes memory for block designs, a measure of visual processing related to fluid intelligence. The expanded battery subtests have the consistency of 0.71 to 0.92. The expanded battery substests are rebus recall, memory for block designs, supplementary measure of mental status, famous faces, auditory recall.

Subtests of KAIT

The Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test contains four core subtests. The Kaufman Adolescent & Adult Intelligence Test have a subtest which is only given to examines with supposed mental impairment. The KAIT is has the subtests which are presented in both visual and auditory formats. They are as follows

  • General intelligence model
  • Orthogonal fluid intelligence - This is used to measure the ability to solve novel problems.
  • Crystallized intelligence - This is used to measures ability to solve problems using knowledge.
  • Oblique Gf-Gc model
